Think you're doing everything right to manifest what you want in life, but still not seeing results? Try turning off the radio.
You can make your vision boards, repeat all the affirmations you want, and visualize like a mad woman, but you still might be making a crucial error when it comes to manifesting. What messages are you letting sneak in the back door of your subconscious? I'm talking about the music pumped into our homes, cars, restaurants, and shopping malls. The sweet, sugary Top 40 kind of music that makes you want to dance around singing into your hair brush.
I used to listen to rock , metal, and industrial music up until a few years ago. I still do on occasion, but I realized for the most part, it made me feel gross. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against that kind of music and there are a few songs I find pretty damn catchy, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I didn't go in the complete opposite direction and start listening to Enya, and that stuff they play when you get a facial or massage either. I've settled into the middle zone of Top 40. I noticed the more I got in touch with my spirituality, the less the heavy metal and rock appealed to me. I became super sensitive to sounds and noises, so now when I listen to the harder stuff it makes me want to pull my hair out and smack people. It does something funky with my energy that makes me feel scattered, and on edge. Anyway, that's just me-I'm not saying that kind of music is "bad", just for me personally I was drawn to music that made me feel…well, happier. I thought the more upbeat pop music would raise my vibration, and keep me in the zone for manifesting (yes please!), and even though I found some of it cheesy, I started liking it (if my high school self heard that she'd shake her head in disgust).
Once I started listening to the lyrics of these upbeat little ditties though I realized the messed up messages we're being fed-perhaps without even realizing it (don't get me started on the fucked up notions "love songs" are programming people with).
If you're like me, songs get stuck in your head easily, and you end up replaying what you've heard long after you turned the radio off. Here are some lyrics from songs being played about 3 million times a day on my local station….
"I knew my rent was goon' be late about a week ago,
I worked my ass off, but I still can't pay it though
But I got just enough to get up in this club….."
"It's not much of a life you're living,
It's not just something you take-it's given"
"but it's a dead end and money's tight
and it's been a long time of this
something is got to give"
Sooo….we've got some poverty mentality stuff, and some life is hard and that' s just the way it is stuff…hmmm…"But wait! " you say…"those are just small parts of the songs-what about the uplifting, motivating chorus?". Ah ha! That's the sneaky thing about it. Even if the songs have a powerful, motivating message, the downer lines can still get stuck in your head. Or you're still singing along to them when the song plays. Since manifesting is fuelled by emotion, unless you're attaching feelings to the lyrics you're not going put a complete halt on bringing the things you want to you. You could however slow things down by letting those lines play in the background of your mind unwilling like affirmations.
I'm not suggesting you totally stop listening to popular music, simply be aware of what you're letting into your mind. It's like a sponge, and it's constantly soaking up things from our environment. If you hear messages that glorify poverty, or that you have to work really hard to get money, or that life is battle to fight through, try substituting other lyrics in. Make up some positive replacements and slide those into the song instead. Make it fun and silly. This will give you the control over what you're letting into your mind, and what's being replayed over and over again. There's power in repetition, just make you know who's holding the power-you, or the media. (the correct answer is "you").
